Two Years, Five Exchanges, Countless Voices — Closing the Voices of the Next Generation Project

Since its launch in 2022, the Voices of the Next Generation project has connected hundreds of young people across Europe in a powerful series of five youth exchanges, each centered around media literacy, journalism, critical thinking, and youth participation.

Led by 6 partner organisations – Cesta Rozvoje, European Youth Press, ILÊWASI, Associazione Eufemia, Noored Ühiskonna Heaks, and AUM Association, the project created inclusive learning spaces where young participants explored various topics relevant to youth today.

Each exchange offered a unique setting — from country to country, young people explored journalism not just as a career path but as a civic tool for shaping society. Through non-formal education, peer-to-peer sessions, and practical media production, participants gained the tools and confidence to create their own narratives, ask difficult questions, and hold systems accountable.

The final youth exchange in Weimar, Germany, was a particularly powerful closing chapter. With activities hosted in a city steeped in cultural and political history, the programme addressed both the creative and critical sides of media literacy. Participants even visited the Buchenwald concentration camp. It was a profound experience that helped ground their conversations in real-world consequences of misinformation and propaganda.

Over two years, the project has not only provided a platform for learning but also for connection and action. Many participants remained active beyond their exchange — some through local initiatives, others through our newly formed Proactive Team: a group of motivated young people who will support outreach efforts through digital content and platform-specific campaigns launching this September.

As we wrap up this phase of the Voices of the Next Generation project, we’re proud of what’s been achieved — not just through workshops and events, but in the relationships, critical awareness, and ideas that continue to grow long after the exchanges end.

Follow our next steps on Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok — and keep an eye out for the video content captured across the exchanges, including our final short film from Weimar.

Reflecting on the Final Voices of the Next Generation Youth Exchange in Weimar

Location: Weimar, Germany

Dates: July 25 – August 1, 2024

Hosted by: European Youth Press

The fifth and final youth exchange of the Voices of the Next Generation project took place in the historic city of Weimar, Germany, bringing together participants from across Europe to explore the themes of media literacy, critical thinking, and youth journalism.

Hosted by European Youth Press, the exchange combined hands-on workshops, peer-to-peer learning, and cultural exchange in a city renowned for its intellectual legacy. Participants were accommodated at the European Youth Education and Meeting Center, where they engaged in daily activities, including four sessions per day, evening thematic events, intercultural nights, and a short film production capturing the spirit of the programme.

A special highlight of the exchange was the group’s visit to the Buchenwald concentration camp, an important and emotional experience rooted in the historical context of Weimar. This visit created space for participants to engage with heavy topics such as remembrance, misinformation, and the role of journalism in protecting truth and democracy.

Each national team was accompanied by a team leader, who contributed energizers and teambuilding activities to help maintain energy and connection throughout the week. Our facilitators, handpicked from European Youth Press, brought expertise in journalism and peer-led education, ensuring that sessions were both professional and highly relatable to the young audience.

This final exchange not only marked the conclusion of the Voices of the Next Generation youth mobilities but also sparked new conversations about how young people can take an active role in shaping media narratives in their communities.

A big thank you to all our partners, participants, and supporters. The journey doesn’t end here — content captured in Weimar will soon be shared across our Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok channels as we continue to engage new audiences and strengthen youth voices across Europe.

LETTERS FROM ESC | Alessia Mancino

SALONICCO (Grecia)

Novembre 2023 – Giugno 2024

Ho acquisito fiducia nelle mie competenze pratiche, artistiche e umane.

A Sustainable Green Europe in Benicàssim

In October, young leaders from across Europe gathered in the scenic coastal town of Benicàssim, Spain, for an enriching Youth Exchange dedicated to creating a more sustainable Europe. This program, part of our Erasmus+ “Voices of the Next Generation” project funded by the European Union, empowered participants to explore the essential themes of climate change, biodiversity, the European Green Deal, sustainable consumption, and policy-making for environmental resilience.

Our exchange offered a unique opportunity to not only learn but to experience nature’s beauty firsthand. One of the most memorable moments was a hike through Natura 2000 protected areas, highlighting the rich biodiversity that sustainable policies aim to protect. This excursion underscored the importance of the EU’s strategy to use natural resources at a pace that allows the earth to renew them, a vital approach in a post-COVID-19 context where resilient ecosystems are key to societal stability.

Throughout the exchange, our participants engaged in a variety of workshops and group activities, each focused on fostering knowledge and action around sustainability. Some key highlights included:

  • Interactive Group Discussions: Topics like the European Green Deal, biodiversity, and the role of youth in environmental policy were explored in depth, encouraging participants to exchange insights and ideas.
  • Collaborative Workshops: Hands-on activities allowed participants to brainstorm initiatives for their local communities, from reducing waste to advocating for sustainable urban development.
  • Natura 2000 Hike: An inspiring journey through biodiversity-rich areas gave participants a real-world glimpse of the ecosystems they’re working to protect.
  • Cultural Exchange and Team-Building: With participants from across the EU, the exchange offered rich cultural experiences and fostered lasting friendships, reinforcing a shared commitment to a sustainable Europe.

This exchange was not just a learning experience; it was a call to action. As these young leaders return home, they bring with them renewed motivation and practical tools to advocate for a greener, more resilient Europe.

Thank you to everyone who took part in this incredible journey! Together, we are building a sustainable future—one initiative, one community at a time.

Stay connected with us and follow our journey to see how European youth are shaping the future of environmental policy!

LETTERS FROM ESC | Viola Prunotto

MANOSQUE (Francia)

Settembre 2023 – Giugno 2024
