A short therm volunteer from Slovenia
Hello, I am a Slovenian volunteer at organisation Eufemia in Torino, Italy.
I have decided to do a short term ESC (for 2 months).
At first I wasn’t sure where I would like to do an ESC, so I was looking for opportunities, mainly online.
It was hard to spot projects that I found interesting and that would also be for a short therm. Then a friend sent me the info pack of this project at Eufemia. And I thought it could be the project for me. I have seen it as a good opportunity to experience the Italian life while contributing to the society.
It all happened quite fast as I had the Skype interview in mid-April and on 2nd of May I was already in Torino. It was a really simple travel as the bus from Slovenia took me almost to the doorstep of the place where I stayed for the next two months. I enjoyed a lot in trying out different gelaterias (ice cream shops) as there are sooooo many. And even though Torino’s traffic seemed a bit hectic at the beginning, I got used to it. Moreover I even managed to get hold of calculating the right time to get on bus to take me to another part of Torino. This was important as some of activities happened outside the city.
Much of time I was dealing with food: food collection with Panacea, cooking workshops with homeless people at Marsigli, food gardening with people with disabilities in Beinasco and many cultural events with dinners. There were also activities with young people such as urban articraft or just spending time with children in a youth centre in Beinasco (playing table tennis, football …). The final few days I spent on a youth exchange called CreativItaly in Claviere in the Alps.
I like the fact that I participated in various projects and have come in touch with different organisations Eufemia is collaborating with (Madiba, Associazione Terra Creativa, Ecomori team). It enabled me to meet many people – social workers who shared their view on social situation in Torino, but also just regular inhabitants of the city.
